Feeding Basa fish fillet as food

The only fish I wouldn't feed to my fish are carp/koi/gold fish and bullhead catfish. I have no idea why but every time I fed my tropical cats bullhead filets they either wouldn't eat it or threw it back up a few hours later. I've fed them channel catfish filets before with no issues but they really don't like bullhead filets. My flathead on the other hand will attempt to eat a bullhead twice as big as he is...go figure. The main diet for my fish is whole herring/alewives, chain pickerel filets and large (5-6 inch) fathead minnows. I try to lean towards feeding whole fish when possible.

Do you catch most of the fish that you feed to your pets?

I'm guilty of this. I save lots of money, and I get to go fishing(see username lol). I don't keep species that are commonly fished for though as I feel that wouldn't be right to the other people that want to catch them. The pickerel around here are such a pest to many that it is not uncommon for people to thunk the ones they catch on the side of the boat and throw them back to die. At least mine are not wasted. The large minnows/chubs I get from a local bait shop. They have a large amount of dead loss(mostly big ones), usually just from stress that they can't sell. Usually they just throw them in the woods but I get them for free when I ask. I freeze them for at least a month before feeding and I've never had an issue yet. I also use them for cat fishing. In my opinion it is about being responsible with what you keep. I would never keep a northern or a walleye to feed my fish since they are uncommon and desirable up here in my area. Sometimes you deep hook a bass or something and you have no choice but to keep it....in which case it doesn't go to waste(I tried eating one but it wasn't that great from this particular lake).
