Hi all. im just wondering how safe it is to feed beefheart for quick growth. ive fed it to all my fish just once for a varied diet but am feeding it to my oscar more often for quick growth. the oscars still only 4'' including the tail. i heard its not ok to feed fish anything from mammals?? also i know its messy but man those fish love the stuff, they clean up pretty well

It's not a really healthy food, because its not natural for them to eat mammal meat. However, I have heard good things about growth rate from it, although I have never really tried it. I would just feed it in a varied diet maybe once or twice a week.

Very risky. Always feed a high-fiber food behind it within a few hours to help push it through if you feel compelled to do it. Crickets and earthworms are better, IMO, for powerfeeding. Also, if you really want rapid growth, feed him steamed asparagus heads. Your eyes will pop out of your head at how fast he'll grow on asparagus. I got my first Oscar to twelve inches in about nine months that way.

Sounds well worth a go !

i feed my polys beefheart 4 about a 1.5 yr wit no problems ive had cichlids eat it 2 with no problem also give it 2 koi and catfish but i feed all other foods as well

i have heard that part of the quick growth comes from the hormones they treat beef and other livestock with. i would feed it to my bichir as a treat or to supplement other foods

I would rather use something like worms as others have said on here. I try to limit such a direct mammal-based food for fish
