K ill just use it once a week or so...the asparugus sounds good...do you chop it into edible pieces? also the water change thing is a diff approach. ill deff start upping how much i change. thanks for the replies guys...i posted this thread this afternoon! awesome

Are you supposed to put the frozen block in the tank or do you defrost it? I have heard of people putting the frozen block in and letting their fish go at it, this can't be healthy?

I usually take a shot glass and fill it up with tank water then drop the frozen cube in it for a few minutes. I only use beef heart sparingly as a treat though.

Thanks, I purchased some a while ago and I have only used 2 blocks, I defrosted it fully and it was almost a liquid so I didn't use the rest, I might drop a partially defrosted block in once a week.

I feed it on rotation to my fish, bout once or twice a week. It works pretty well and have never had an impaction or anything because of it.
Beef heart much cheaper if you buy it in bulk from the grocery store (I want to say its two or three dollars a pound). It takes awhile to get finely chopped and leaves you with alot of surplus but saves lots of money. If you have dogs you can solve the surplus problem easily as well.

yea i usualy shop it into 8 pieces with a steak knife. i just drop them in one at a time as he eats. I first thawed it with tank water but it falls into to too many small pieces.

i like the idea of buying it at the grocery store. just chop it into a chunks and freeze. is it ok for dogs to eat raw beef heart?? idk im jw

BH from local grocery store. Freeze it.

To clean run under water for few secs, just to remove ice, and thaw a bit.

Peel like an apple, cutting away all fat.......you'll still have to remove vein like fat seen in pic.

Cut into portion size.....refreeze.

When feeding, I grab portion size and just shave thin slices over tank......

Fish go insane.......

Don't thaw out, makes mess!

The jury is still out the safety of feeding raw meat to your dogs. (google pros and cons of the BARF diet for a deluge of opinions) I give it to mine raw to no ill effects. You could nuke it tho to be on the safe side.
