ok, i had a pet centipede and i dont know about the ones you bought but mine was extremly venomous and could either bite from the front or sting from the back. a mouse i threw in once creeped up from behind him and he tagged it with his back two legs. so good luck pickin these things up man. i barly ever took the top off his tank man, only animal i ever had that scared the **** out of me. i wouldnt put one near a fish that i liked.

Cool!! Does a centepide enhance the color???

Some people say that they enhance the color of red asian aros.

arent centipedes poisoness?

or is that only for certain species?

Yes, some species more than others. Remember though, something that's poisonous to a human is not necessarily poisonous to a fish.

The poison is injected via their front two legs, as with most venomous creatures their level of toxicity is dependant on location and species. The more venomous species hail from South American rain forests and others from tropical islands in the bahammas etc. cutting off their heads and front 2 legs then throwing them in the tank immediatly would be the best way to do it. Though I haven't heard the question of whether or not they enhance the color of this fish yet answered. If so I know a few places near by to catch some 4" specimans. I had a friend feed big centipedes and even a tarantula to his piranhas, didn't really seem to enhance color though.

After some research I found that the most poisonous centipede is the Vietnamese C.entipede (found mostly in Southeast Asia) as it's the only one that has had human deaths attributed to it. Here is is:

I think the one you're thinking of is the Giant Peruvian Centipede, which also has a badass reputation and a nasty sting, but not as bad as the Vietnamese.

As you guys can see, I'm still on vacation so lots of time to kill :grinyes:

centipede can be fed to your aro, but be aware of the stingers it has, usually its cut to avoid injecting poison to your aro, its good color enhancing food

ask the store if they're poisonous if not just do it

All centipedes are poisonus. Ive kept a Vietnamese centipede and siestaskyy is right, They are scary fast! Also the vietnamese c has whats termed medicaly significant venom
They are also terribly fasinating to watch, so if you have a 10g and a very secure lid, pick one up they are MONSTERS of the insect world.

I likem' and the reason they scare me is they are quicker than greased owl sh*t!

mine was a vietnamese as well, prob about 8.5". I had him in a 2.5 gal tank with a very tightly locked lid. he ended up dieing shorty after i fed him an anole. im not sure if anoles are poisonus but my buddy had a turantula that died after he fed it an anole. but oh boy... watchin them eat is something else. when i would feed him mice he would uselly bite it right behind the head and after it would die he would start eating its stomach. then when he would eat it... it would be as if a catipiller eating a leaf. one bite at a time left to right. when he was done all that was left was the spine and tail. EVERYTHING else was eatin. it was sick but to the point you had to watch. forget monsters of the insect world. there just plane monsters.
