I just bought a 4" peacock and a 3" tire-track eel, and put them in a tank with an established group of snails. Will eels eat snail young? Will this suffice, or do I need to feed worms too? Tnx! :nilly:

they may eat some but will need more and other foods try bloodworms and shrimp and of course night crawlers

Unbelievable I just purchased a peacock eel from my local Petsmart and it is MASSIVE the thing is easily 9" long!:screwy: ! Its huge for the price tag....and fat....$9 for a 9" fish sounds fair to me;) .

Back to the topic...my little guy is new so I havent seen it eat yet but I have unsuccessfully owned this type of fish before. I have bloodworms...but I never saw any of my previous eels eat. Some eels must be FAR more pickey than others.

Can anyone explain this pickeyness or is it just with select stubburn fish?

ive had a nice size one about nine inches also for about 5 months now and still have only seen it eat once and thats because i put baby night crawlers in with the lights off and caught him in the act. they sure eat tho when your not looking thats for sure.

I think it varries with the eel. I know when I put small guppies in my tank for other fish, the needles sometimes take a nab at them.

I would feed them live ghost shrimp as well, just put a few in the tank and they will hunt them. It's great to watch. Also, mine enjoy blood worms and small nightcrawlers (bigger ones you should cut up)

Some people say to feed them shrimp pellets, but honestly, I've never seen mine eat them.

Thats a great deal from petsmart. We got my first eel there and it was skinny, then I got two more that were easily 6" and fat. A great deal IMO as well.
