Feeding fish peas and bugs

The filler and fish meal
there are other brands, with less filler.
I think it's difficult to meet full nutritional needs without using some prepared foods. but bugs & fresher veggies are good additions.

I feed peas to my large herbivores such as pearsei cichlids and my flagtail. Ive even caught my oscar and datnoid snagging one or two. Ive always had good results. I throw bugs in now and then, but only if i am positive it wont hurt them. We have Box Elder Bugs here and my fish love those!

i used to feed my fish bugs (meal worms then super worms) then i switched them to hikari it has all the essential nutrition i guess... although it is fun to feed them live bugs once in a while and get them all riled up

I feed mine freeze dried crickets on a regular basis. they mash up well for feeding the smaller guys, but when the big ones get a whole bug I've seen them come out almost whole, but drained of all color. pretty gross.
I used to feed my oscar mayflies too, he'd chew them up and spit out the wings.
nothing wrong with fish meal. when fish eat each other, they get the bones, guts, etc. all part of good nutrition. but just peas and bugs? I'd be very surprised if there wouldn't be nutritional deficiencies without a greater variety.

throwing live crickets in for the oscar is REALLY FUN :-) it's neat seeing him in hunter mode.
