Remember when I had a gar...only ate live fish but then again is was on the smaller side. Worse comes to worse some lfs as well as most web sites sell an acrylic feeding stick that I use to use when I use to have a lion fish (I go from fresh to salt....salt to fresh). They really can't see anything that attach to the silverside so it looks like a free swimming fish. Hope that helped
