Ok I kinda wanted to check up on this, I've always wondered if i've been doing it correctly. This is how I've been doing it for about a year. First off i usually buy frozen pre packaged tilapia and salmon (occasionally shrimp). When im ready to use it I cut open the air sealed fillet, rinse with cold water then cut it into cubes (I do not thaw because for me its easier to cut into small cubes still mostly frozen). I then put it in a ziplock bag, squeeze the air out and put it in the freezer for use. When it come time to use i usually just let it thaw on its own or float the bag in the tank, but sometimes when I am rushed i thaw it out in hot water (either on the bag or in the bag). After feeding i then squeeze the air out and put it back into the freezer. I usually cut up about a weeks worth at a time. What i'm basically asking is, is this the correct way to do it? How do you all go about the process? I feel like its probably not good to thaw with hot water though??

I don't know if its different with fish but thawing meat in hot water can cause a lot of bacteria to grow real quick and potentially make you sick. I assume they could make fish sick to but I don't actually know. It may also cause the meat to cook slightly, idk if this will hurt the fish at all, I keep goldfish so my meat is pellets :) that's just my $0.2. I have no idea if your doing it right though..

Tilapia is one of the easiest frozen foods to work with when it comes to cutting filet is thin enough to cut, and dice . I personally take out 1 whole fillet let sit for a minute or two, cut half place remainder in a zip lock bag place back in freezer. If it's still frozen I dip my aquarium only bowl in the aquarium and let thaw that way:)

Be it fish fillet or shrimp I keep it in a plastic bag and let it sit out until it gets room temperature, then it's good to go and bombs away.It usually does not take very long before the seafood is thawed sufficiently enough to feed to my fish.

When I can, I try to buy fresh fish that hasn't been frozen, cut it in cubes, wrap in plastic wrap, throw them in ziploc bags and freeze. Before feeding, I thaw at room temperature.

Here's what my stash looks like...

Some lucky fish! halibut.

LOL...what's wrong with halibut? It's the same price as the other fish I buy at the market.

I suppose the p's are some lucky bastards LOL...that pic was from a few months ago so I've long switched up the fish. Today, they had kingfish! :D
