just curious s to what everyone uses to feed free swimming fry. Personally flake and bbs are the best.

Could you be more specific, what type of fry are we talking about?

for hikari first bite how do u know they actually eat them since its like dust?

You can actually see the dust fall if you put a pinch underneath the water. Fry aren't dumb they have instincts to eat whatever so something falling in front of them they will try and find out it's food. :)

how long do u think fries can live without food after they finish the egg yolk? i just want to be sure my fries are even eating

The fry will scavenge the ground for food. This is an establised tank? Substrate in it? I've not fed for weeks and they lived fine, I don't recommend it but they did live. But for your actual question, probably 2-3 days at the max if that. Their extremely tiny, so they will need food immediately to sustain themselves. If their alive after a week after becoming free-swimming then their finding food somewhere otherwise they would die of starvation soon. Some fry even eat off of their parents if there is absolutely no food present.

You should be fine, you probably just can't tell since their small or the parents are guarding them alot since their very young. What fish are they?

they jags and there is always one of them around if tho its only the pair jags in the tank, and i would say they been free swimmer for atleast 5 days now even tho i accidently killed alot of them but theres still atleast 1/3 of the orginaly batch alive. the tank is substrate. Is it bad? i have been putting a little of the hikari first bites in a few days ago idk if it helped. Just trying to get the basic down, thanks alot packer

daphnia is not a bad choice. anything you can grind down to a fine powder that you would feed the adult form would be suitable
