they jags and there is always one of them around if tho its only the pair jags in the tank, and i would say they been free swimmer for atleast 5 days now even tho i accidently killed alot of them but theres still atleast 1/3 of the orginaly batch alive. the tank is substrate. Is it bad? i have been putting a little of the hikari first bites in a few days ago idk if it helped. Just trying to get the basic down, thanks alot packer
Substrate is good! There will be little goodies for the fry to eat in there. Actually Jags were the ones I was reading today about them eating off of the parents(contact feeding) so they could have easily been doing that. Just a small pinch twice a day will do fine for them. Once the parents understand no threat is in the tank they will let them fry venture off and you will actually see them eat. A pair is really protective when their young, usually not letting them go far at all.

I understand, every fish keeper is the same when they breed their fish especially the first time they want everything to turn out perfect. Your doing great though, and your welcome, lol.

the thing is i doubt the fry can eat what the parent is because they eat live baby shrimp. i bought so much diff kind of food trying to feed my fries hopefully enough for the next batch if there is going to be any

I meant the fry will actually eat the mucous off of the parents, weird I know but it can happen. Brine Shrimp is a great fry food! One of the bests, if your feeding that then I'm sure they ate some by now.

P.S. Unless the fry are all gone/killed or "old enough" the parents won't breed again until this batch is gone. But the pair will breed again, every few months if not earlier.

its live shrimp not brine, shrimp from the ocean thats alive and they stay alive in the tank for a few hours before dying about .1-3cm in size. doubt the fry can get through there shell

me.. crushed/powder flakes. Since spawn. They're free swimmers now. I give the adult (rip bonnie) cichlid pellets and they're too big so the fry go at them anyway, but they don't fit in their mouths so they leave them alone. Good boys lol
