Just a quick question. I'm still pretty new to my sharks and fish in general. I've only had them for about 2 weeks. they are still only 3 and 2.5 inch's. Also there is a red tail in there who is only 2 inch's. I've been feeding them fish flakes still and I know this is fine for now. But i'm wondering how big should they be or will they be before I can feed them other things. even mealworms .. etc. what other thing should i feed them and how big should they be before I feed them it?

Also another question. In my tank I have those three sharks, and 4x tiger barbs atm. I think i'm going to add 2x green tiger barbs and something else interesting. maybe aggresive. It's only a 38 gallon tank right now but as everything grows so will the tank. So I'd also like some suggestions on which other new fish i should add that would be fine in the tank. an oscar or something maybe? Any idea's?

a good mix of flake, freeze dried krill, and blood worms should work fine. you are going to need a greatly larger tank for the id sharks. as they can grow around 3'.

i would stay away from the O simply because space and attitude.

your mix of fish is quite common unfortunately because that is what the lfs stock. very very bad mix of fish, and tank size. the barbs and red tail will either pester the id sharks to death or the id's will grow large enough to swallow the others and you will be left with less fish. im kind of hoping the barbs kill the id's and hopefully since you came here you will learn enough to only keep the barbs in a tank that small. i know you said you would upgrade tanks, but are you willing to upgrade to a 1000 gallon for the id sharks? if you are then i stand corrected and im sorry for flaming on you, otherwise, please use the search function and find some suitable tank mates for the barbs or just stick with them.

well i don't have a problem with any of them yet. the sharks are peaceful and don't ever try to hurt the barbs. and the barbs aren't brave enough to go near the sharks so they just stick to their own buissness more of less. and i hope the barbs don't hurt the sharks since they are more important to me in the long run. and 1000 gallon isn 't neccisary. a few people still seem to think the iridescent sharks grow to 3'. which is wrong. in the wild they can grow to that but also have big life spans to reach that big. in captivity they don't reach near that big. a few people have reported theirs to have grown to 20 even 24 inch's .. but over an average of a 10 year span to get that big. 8/10 time they get to like 12-16 inchs and die apparently.

help the guy out don't kill him, and what is it with tiger barbs that everyone thinks they just attack anything/everything? i have never had any problems with them beyond an occasional fin nip. but please, to kill other fish rarely if ever. especially one bigger and faster than itself

Yes they die due to being stressed, caused by poor water and lack of space,i love I D sharks but cant keep them because i dont have a big enough tank, same with the RTC,wich also needs a huge tank.:WHOA:

Think it was a redtail shark he has, not an rtc. An buddy the id's will get huge. The ones that are 12-18 then die are stunted and stressed. Properly cared for, they will grow to over 24 in aquaria. They will suprise you in their growth rate as well. By this time next year you will be looking for the 300 cause the 125 you bought them doesn't have enough space. Except for the id's your mix sounds good. Don't get an oscar now, it will eat your barbs on its way to growning to over a foot long in a years or less time. Good luck

yah agreed. my tiger barbs don't do anything. the smaller shark had one small nip in his fin thats all they've done. other then that they stay in their own school. and move whenever the sharks come near them. and yah it's a redtail shark. not redtail cat. he only get like max of 7 inch's i think. anyways. moving on from the tank. i know where you guys are comming from and stuff. moving on to my questions. when should i start feeding them worms etc .. and what? also i get the idea of no oscar. so i want some ideas on what i SHOULD get that would fit in nicely. i also have a small 10 gallon tank empty at the moment. was going to use to smaller fish to feed the sharks and whatever else i get. however i can always move stuff around ... move my barbs into it or something. no biggie. so some suggestions on what else to get would be great.
