My jar has only ever eaten hikari floating pellets everything else dry he chewed up and spat out , was ok at first but they only do small bags so became to expensive if you do get him on pellet be aware of this , make sure you can buy big or there not to expensive to start with , I also feed mine whitebait and mussles but raw prawns makes em grown quick if you got the space at the mo , good luck
