What should I feed my Koi & Goldfish, should it vary based on season? I fed my Goldfish mainly cichlid pellets last year, and tried to get them to eat krill w/out success. I read somewhere that they will eat brocoli, and fruit, anyone try this? I also plan on putting many juvnille Green Terrors in my pond for the summer (breeding GT's), will they be eaten by Koi/Goldfish?

My uncle feeds them the same type of food I believe year round. I would call and ask him but he is on a trip.

I wouldn't add GT's to your pond unless it is really big. At least 3000gl + cause if the GT's start breeding they would probably rip the koi apart or stress the koi out really bad.

My uncle is trying 2 oscars and 2 pacus this year in his pond. But all his koi are at least 3' and he is raiseing the oscars and pacus with the koi in a 800gl pond in the basement right now so the oscars grow up and get used to the koi. The only reason he considerd trying oscars with his koi is cause the pond outside is 9000gl.

Also koi will eat a lot of different food. We have seen a koi eat little goldfish, frogs, and minnows that he has in his pond. They don't do it very often but they can and sometimes do.

Just my 2 cents on the GT's and koi.

Koi and Goldfish should be fed wheatgerm pellets.
It's not good for them to get only hi-protein food like the cichilds get.

your somewhat correct

wheatgerm pellets should be feed if the water is below 60 degreed F

in warmer water like during summer you can feed high protein foods to pump up juviniles and small adult fish.

koi and GF cant digest that kind of food in the winter, as it would basically rot in there guts and kill them.

chances are the gts would freeze to death by fall/winter.

there are alot of things you can feed these guys

ALL kinds of fruit and veggies

i have feed my koi frozen vegetable mixes, koi pellets, and even ham :grinyes:

you could also try cheerios (regular though, not honey nut)

i highly doubt that your koi will eat the GT's, koi are very peaceful fish and wouldnt even likely eat guppies, mine didnt anyways.

but then again every fish is different

The GT's wouldn't freeze if he got them out in time.

Yeah Koi can have really different personallitys. One of my uncles will let you pet it and pick it up, one constanly hunts minnows and one dosesnt like people and will attack you legs when you are in the pond. Good thing they don't have teeth in the front of their mouth, just in the back.
