Building is fine. I've built several tanks over the years up to 2,240gals. I even had a 900gal plywood tank running for 17 years without a leak before selling it. And, it went another 8 years before I lost track of it.
With lumber, glass, and hardware costs lately, it's cheaper to buy mass-produced tanks up to about the 300gal range then to build them yourself. If you want to go bigger than 300, then building your own is a viable alternative to the expense of a shop-made tank.

I got ripped off twice on AB tank deals. Once for $860 and once for $550. Plus, most tank auctions are pickup only now. One seller is offering a 500gal. But, the measurements come to 370. Lately, I check ebay first since they bought out Paypal. It's easier to fight a sour deal with them.

Hey oddball sounds like you got a sweet fish room.
