I have had it for 2 days. I will try some frozen krill, see what happens. Maybe isolate it, and try to get it to eat on its own.
I know exactly the horrors you speak of, i worked at petland some years ago. Went in to a store the other day and they have a 20 inch alligator gar in a 30gallon tank, made me sick.
Smelt are sold for ridiculously high prices in petstores and labeled "Silversides". Go to your local grocery store or market and chances are you will find Smelt in the seafood section, either fresh or frozen, for a whoooole lot cheaper.
While your there, pick up a cheap thing of shrimp. This will make your lima very, very happy.
I have never tried freezedried stuff with any shovelnose. I would recommend a trip to the market and picking up some of the meaty stuff, though you could try sinking carnivore pellets and the likes.
These guys bite big and like to get it all in one shot, so a nice chunk of thawed fish or shrimp keeps them happy and growin.
