feeding lionfish

What I did to "train" my lion, was initially fed live feeders, and when I would i would kind of show him the fish and bring it up to the top of the tank and have him follow my hand, then drop the feeder right near him. Eventually he associated my hand dropping something in there with food, then i was able to switch over to fresh seafood and frozen silversides. Now he will pretty much grab anything up that i drop in the tank.

Be careful with the "hand" feeding you do not want them to associate your hand with feeding time. It will cause them to go after your hand whenever you attempt to clean your tank. I like to use freeze dried shrimp and move with a feeding prong so make them go after it.

If it is not eaten what you bought try having it chase it that should get it to chase it and eat it. Keep doing this until it will eat the food when you put it in front of it

+1 to that, esspecially if you ever want to keep any more "dangerous" preds like eels. Feeder sticks or forceps are best for this.

Trust me im very careful, last thing I want is to get shanked by a spine. Hes never gone after my hand (yet) when Ive been doing maintainence, usually moves over to his sleeping spot because I shut the lights off when doing wc and such, but I always keep an eye on him regardless when im in the tank
