If I had to make the choice I would feed only live pinkies. Nothing larger (safety reasons). Everything else needs to be conked out. Also, it depends ont he size of the herp to decide what prey to feed it.

Obviously, but it wouldn't matter to you, as you would feed them all pre-killed if they were bigger than a pinky correct?

More than likely I would feed all live, just incapacitated. I wouldn't ever take the chance of injury to one of my herps. If I knew there was minimal chance of injury I MAY leave one completely alert in the cage but even that's shaky IMO.
Also, if I ever have snakes then I'll more than likely live feed it mice. Give it that small bit of exercise.

LOL letting it out it's cage and wander around a bit would be exercise, even with my poor reflexes I could catch a mouse in a small enclosed space!

true but my mom is a "skeptic" so to speak. She's afraid of snakes and wouldn't let me have one running about (slithering).
That's why I would live feed, to give them even the minutest amount of exercise.

Using tongs? I often mimick movements when feeding, and I can let them have it when I want them too.

i was thinking on getting a good starter snake but I'm not sure on it.
The shops around me have a few choices (milksnakes, pythons, burmese, ball, boas, corns, kings) but not many food suppliers. I'd have to find a place to buy feeder mice first.

They sell the snakes but not the feed?

Another reason I just thought of for not feeding live... we don't have live feeders over here!
Looking forward to elevatethis and a few other people who favour live to arrive.

Yah the shops here are a bit odd.they order they're feed sperately and most don't provide any. I do believe one has feeder mice but I'm not sure.

I was never one for the live vs frozen debate but must ask a question:
Can anyone offer an advantage to feeding live?? I mean, everyone can offer up advantages for feeding frozen, ranging from convienance to safety for the animal being fed. Is there any advantage to feeding live?

Also, if feeding fresh killed (Or animals that were "Clunked" on the head) is so popular, why not feed frozen thawed? I cannot understand why anyone would purchase a live animal rather than a dead (Frozen) one. Sorry, this makes no sense to me.:screwy:
