Feeding Maggots?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Keepounding - feeding the feeders extra stuff so they have more goodies in them when the fish eat them. Feed crickets extra vegetables, esp. orange ones (carrots, sweet potatoe) since it has more carotenes in it, which will increase/brighten certain colors in the fish, etc.

I say dead or frozen because Ive HEARD of times where certain worms remain alive for awhile and attempt to chew themselves out of their predators stomachs.

I could be wrong regarding fish thou I have heard it happened to certain lizards.

By no means am I an experts on this, just my .o2

I had a baby bearded dragon killed by mealworms, burrowing out of the lizard from the inside! Yuck! That was the regular mealworm, not the superworms. I have fed superworms to Phelsuma (Day Geckos, aka the insurance lizards) and to Silver Arowanas with no trouble.

No you didn't..... your beardie died of something else. I promise you that is a really stupid rumour that holds no truth.

The original idea was to dump remaining maggots wisely, wasn´t it?

Good idea, Goldfishes should take them, so just feed them.

For special preparation you can inject nearly anything fluid with a syringe, like fishoil, dilution of Spirulina, Beta-Glucane, Carotinoids and whatever....

Even pupae should be taken...

So, it´s just a matter of trying out ;)

Does anyone share the experience that if you wash the maggots (probably because of their nice manure smell :barf:) they start floating being fed?

I guess they take a deep breath when they get wet, so they cannot sink anymore, it took about 2 days to get them sinking again!

???!
