  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From your guyses experiences do they tend to poop in the water? I see you have wood chip substrate how is that working out for you? Ive been doing research for about 2+yr now i have an enclosure ready for one just waiting for the opportune moment.

They do poop in the water most of the time but they he will also go in the wood chips. you just need a very good high power filter to keep the water clean or the water will just be disgusting in 3 days. i dont really recomend wood chips mine doesnt really seem to like it on his feet.

I have had it sence it was about 8 inches it has now been 3 and a half years and it is now 26 inches. The enclosure I built my self measures 5ft long by 3ft wide and 3 feet tall. I keep the water temp at 80 and the air temp around 73-75. I feed it dead mice as you can see in the video and a few other things on occasion.

Ok, your growth is very similar to mine with similar temps. Glad to see someone keeping them at the right temps. I found a guy on youtube who suggested 90 degrees. I wtf'd.

Z, mine poops mostly on land from what I see. Kinda 90/10 I guess. I have no issues with WQ.

So would u guys prefer sand over the wood chips? I was also tthinking of doing some dirt and grow patches of grass. Which would be better? They like to burrow correct? Is it necessary to keep a heat lamp over where they burrow? So when your lil guy poops on land do you just spot clean i assume?

Yes I recommended sand. And I don't think you'll be able to grow grass you would need some pricy lights just to grow any plant. And yes I just spot clean the droppings when ever I see them. But i see your only 15 years old- i hope you have a nice job of some sort to even feed these animals, I feel like you need to do more research, before you just jump to the gun, they are not your everyday reptile (obviously) they are super dangerous and are easily capable of taking a finger off at a Juvenile size. The maitnece of these animals Is unbelievable your cleaning something pretty much everyday. These are truly awesome reptiles to own but if you don't have the time to clean up and care for one you being only 15 and in school I suggest turning away.

Great points, ive talked with lep a few times i have the energy and money wont really be an issue the only thing i might be short of is time cuz of school like you said. i think i might hold off a couple more years maybe the summer i go into my senior yr would be the ideal time to get one actually. Until then i can do alot more research.

I use sand, peat moss and soil mix. I use a man made burrow. Im not willing to risk her making her own. I dont use a heat lamp.
