I know alot of people who feed with no problems.BUT i personally have 2 of my buddies have major problems longer term due to spazing fish from eternal parisites and sudden deaths with stress qnd so on. We narrowed it down after 3 months to the tilapia. Now no more issues.

I did research and raw fish needs to be frozen at like negative 100degrees for like 5 days in order to kill all desises it could carry(cant remember the exact temp and time) but enough to know that its never exsposed to cold enough for long enough to be free of parasites.

Also tilapia is a "crap" fish raised in some of the dirtiest of conditions. I personally dnt feed fresh water creatures to freshwater fish. I use saltwater creatures. I say frozen shrimp is your safest bet!

I knw many people use talapia with no issues. But the research, and personal exsperiance lead me to say its way to risky and not worth it. Same thing with frozen blood worms btw.

Good luck. Cichla love shrimp!

This is what I feed all my cichla growing out before they are converted to pellet; Mostly treated silver sides injected with Vid Chem and belly loaded with Hikari Carnivore Food Sticks. I also feed them; blood worms, fresh & freeze dried krill, freeze dried grass hoppers & mill worms and raw market shrimp.. Monster Knows how to feed his cichal baby!! Notice all these items are power packed with protein, multivitamins & minerals...Another key to this feeding style is variety making it soooo much easier to pellet train down the road.. Maybe you can give a few of these a shoot.

Stick to Hikari Bio Gold Pellets or Carnivore Sticks........Good luck.

i feed mine Frozen Tilapia, pellets, and Shrimp as well no problems ive seen and ive been doing it for a while, It just kills the water so I usually feed them before i do water changes and it rids all of the nasty water. I usually go get it fresh from the jewel i live by and then pack the cuts with some pellets. Maybe its safer than the frozen prepackaged stuff idk but ive never had any problems as far as parasites or anything abnormal.

Their original diet was bloodworms freeze dried krill and a variety of hikari pellets ... can it be difficult to get them on pellets cause I've always seemed to do o.k with em
