Feeding my pair of Channa aurantimaculata

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, I use Water Sprite in some of my tanks as well. It grows very fast and provides good cover.

wow love the cork bark and that auranti male is amazing!! What kind of shops carry those? Is it reptile shops? Because i don't see them in fish shops.

Tks Auranti.
Actually I didn´t buy the cork bark. It was collected in the countryside (South) of Portugal. My country is #1 in cork (I guess it´s the only thing we are #1...lol) so when the cork is removed from the trees we can find some good pieces laying around. I went south to a region called "Alentejo" (literal translation would be "beyond Tagus" - a river that crosses the country) for a weekend and brought back a few pieces of cork, this being the best one.
I have cork in most of my channa tanks

oh man thats so cool, to collect your own deco! Okay, i guess ill check out some reptile stores, hopefully they have them. Thanks :)

Your lucky! I looked into getting some cork tubes it doesn't grow this far north, there are a few company in the US that sell the virgin cork bark off branches but it costs more then I'm willing to spend. Guess I'm still luckier then most I still have miles and miles of coast line and rivers for free driftwood and i know a lot of people have to pay for that stuff as well !

They are looking great though! I need to get some pic's of mine, they woke up last week both have been pounding back food, ironically they seem to want pellets more then anything else.

BTW the male looks female again in that second picture LOL. I think i got lucky with mine the differences are very clear, Yours seems to have more blue and longer fins then my female, but less blue and more striping then my male lol.

They look very nice, Joao.
I looked for cork bark around here a while back at fish and reptile stores, and I could only find plastic/fake cork bark. It just doesn't look as nice and natural.

Might want to try a greenhouse that specializes in orchids , or has a decent section for them ,I found a few websites that had it available and they were specializing in orchids. Called "virgin cork bark" it's what they call the pieces from the first harvest that is too rough to use for other processing.

Thanks. I'll try and see what I can find. I've seen the virgin cork bark online, but you always have to order it from the US as you mentioned earlier.

Devon,
This is how it goes..somethings are easy to find in your side of the pond, others in mine. And it's funny you've mentioned you're able to catch your own driftwood...I paid big bucks for my 5x2' piece.
