I'm going to start mixing crickets a few times a month into my 2 oscars diet. I know with earthworms you need to keep them in oats for a few days to cleanse. Do I need to do anything with crickets I buy from petco before I feed the fish or can they go in the tank straight out of the bag?

ya I'm talking strictly about the petco crickets the sell to feed to reptiles, the crickets around here are those big black ones with all the spikes on their legs...don't think I'd want to feed those to my fish

I've always fed wild crikets to my oscars never had a problem ..my wall in the back of my home is full of them seems that I can't get rid of them so started feeding my oscar...its true some insects might have pestiiside..I don't spray any because I have dogs and birds right where they are....but there a chance they can come from other places.....personally I don't see anything wrong....oretty sure fish eat wild insectswith who knows what (pestiside n other stuff..) that's just my opinion though..

I always feed crickets and mealworms to my fish, I have a bearded dragon and I just suplement the fishes food with some live from time to time. never had any problems.

The only problem I had when I fed crickets, they float. And if they can get a good jump in, you might find a cricket or two somewhere else in the house at some point.

Ive fed crickets to my fish plenty (petco not wild!!!) and they love them. But what i found to be affective is to shake the bag hard a couple times so it knocks them out. Then they still move a bit so its attractive to the fish and they cant get away.

And no the fish wont care if theres pesticides on or in the bugs. But your fishes insides will! Its the same reason you dont let your kids or pets in the yard after its been sprayed! Its harmful! Im sorry do what you want but your not doing your fish any favors by feeding him potential poisons...

we live on a marsh so we spray twice a year for mosquitoes so I'll definitely be sticking with petco crickets, thanks for all help and I look forward to getting some crickets for my oscars

I used to feed em for fun but they made a big mess. A lot of it ends up floating in the water column (skin, legs, head, etc). They basically just eat the soft parts and spit out the rest.
