This is the Eel that lives in our back garden. He was out looking for food this morning so I grabbed the camera and some chunks of fish. The eel is about 3 ft long, about the same as the width of the stream, and yes it's fins are almost breaking the surface at time.
It's a NZ longfin Eel - Anguilla dieffenbachii. They are the top predator in the local waterways, and can grow to 6ft long
