ive gotten them off live before 1".
but NEVER STARVE any bass below 6-8" to get them off live.
just try the foods and see if theyll take it.
if they wont eat anything but feeders, give em feeders.
competition seems to work best, but dont mix rowdy cichlids with baby cichla.
it just might turn out bad IMO...
would you starve your baby of any meal of the day if he/she was below the age of 2?
its not healthy at all for the cichla...
especially at a small size when they are most fragile.
Mine were onto pellets when they were 3'' and now they eat anything....hikari cichlid gold floaters and sinking pellets, bloodworms, prawn and of course anything live that will fit in their mouths.
ok heres the deal.. ideally you shouldn't start to 'starve' your cichla to get them on pellets until they are about 6-7 inches.. if you choose to start them at a smaller size there is a pretty good shot that you will stunt them dramatically depending on a few fact such as there health before and how long you are starving them for.. now the thing is, its not that you can't get your cichla to eat pellets at a smaller size.. i had a group of orinos that took pellets willingly and never needed to start them.. so if you could get them to take pellets at there own will then your ok but ideally if your going to starve them you should wait till 6 ot 7 inches
