Hello,

I have a JD, Blood Parrot and a Geophagus Brasiliensis. I am interested in finding out a way to push the JD away from his current diet. I buy nightcrawlers weekly which he loves. I think the hunt and fight is what makes this such an easy feed for him. He won't touch pellets. The Parrot and Geo will eat pellets or algae wafers etc if given. I am afraid to try the whole get you hungry enough so you'll eat what I give you tactic as I don't want to hurt him. He's been stubborn since he was tiny and first put into the tank which worried me and made me get him worms instead. They all look great. Bright, vibrant colors and are lively.

With that said, is it bad to continue feeding him worms? Or do I need to push for other foods? If so, how do I go about doing it?

Thank you!

I'd push for a better diet. LFS has some cichlid pellets with garlic extract, this usually helps picky eaters. You can also try soaking your pellets in vitachem some fish will eat it this way. I'm having probs with my jag being picky like this, but hes a juvie...fed him 3 different types and he grabs them then spits them out.

Order or get some nls pellets, best thing for your fish to eat, Carrnivore pellets might be easy for him to get on as well but are not as good of a diet in my opinion

I have sinking pellets already and he just ignores them. It's like unless it's rather large he won't even give it a nip.

X2!!

Odds are your going to have to starve him now that its been spoiled with something like night crawlers. It wont hurt anything to starve for a week... jealousy factor may kick in when it sees your other fish pounding down pellets

He can go that long and not be harmed or die from it? These fish are my pride and joy in terms of a hobby and I don't want to hurt them. I will go get those pellets asap if this could work.

you will not harm him try the NLS or try Omega sinking pellets (im a big fan) and even take it one step more depending on what the temp you have now turn it up to around 82 and add a crush clove of fresh garlic not the garlic that is already chopped in the jar. This will help make a finicky eat more likely to eat!! what is the current temp of your tank?

I keep the tank at/near 80, no higher though. Should I go for larger pellets? As in real big ones. Or?

bigger my just add more waste if it not eaten. try the clove of garlic. i have the massivore delight and i think those are 10mm (those are big) so i break them up so they get eaten when they get dropped in. So again try the garlic it does work wonders. its crazy but it makes them want to eat.

i higher temp will make them move around more and make them tend to eat from be active during the day. it can increase aggressiveness but all your trying to do is get him to eat pellets. if not starve him and he will eat.
