Feeding routine

Did you notice any changes in your bichir's coloration from feeding NLS? I used to feed my bichirs the NLS 10mm pellets(along with tilapia/smelts). But only like 2 of them were eating NLS like it was cut up fish.

Damn color cahnge alot, didnt know that food can change the polys color.

clm08k clm08k , As to Northfin, I find the 6mm Jumbo to work well with my 15"+ polys. I have also tried the 10mm Carnivore pellets and those seemed to be readily accepted. The only Northfin that the polys have not liked is the 6mm Krill gold. This is like an 85% Krill formula, so you know it has very little fillers but all the fish cant stand it.

clm08k clm08k when you feed catfish do it the day before wc, just incase you see some oil and can be romove right away. Ive been doing it for a month now and i havent seen any oil on mine, the only thing i like about the catfish is some of the chunck will float and those are the one with alot of fat, so you can remove those right away.

what one would you recommend for a 5" poly? Mine has a little while to go to be 15" inches. Heh. That's good to know about the 6mm Krill gold, wouldn't have known that otherwise. Thank you so much for the information!

Do you find that the Northfin has a hard time sinking?

I had no issues with the Jumbo but the krill kind of took a long time to sink if I remember right.

Im not sure on the pellet size with yours, maybe the 3mm cichlid would work or the 4mm jumbo formula. Wth the 6mm it is about the same size as two Hikari Sinking Carnivore pellets stacked on top of each other.

what type of north fin and omega one do you buy? Any other suggestions for things instead of massivore? One of the amazon reviews said it smelled like sour diapers hahaha.

I use the reg oo formula. The northfin is the cichlid formula, may buy the carnivore formula but again im not a fan. It does stink but it looks like it maybe a necessary evil.

I use a syringe to get pellets to sink. Fill the syringe half way with pellets then use the plunger to suck in some water. Push out the air then cover the hole with your finger while pulling the plunger back. It creates a vacuum and saturates the pellets.

Use one of the syringes meant for kid meds get em att walgreens or cvs

No never had an issue. I did notice a change in color the past few weeks. I've been on auto pilot with the hobby just feeding the fish strictly northfin and doing water changes. I dont plan on buying it again maybe i'll try thr carnivore formula
