feeding shrimp

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh he lets go after a nip. just avoid being bitten if you can. most of the time, it doesnt really hurt but they do have a nasty number of teeth and i bled a couple of instances after being bit by my silver and jardini. my green still has to bite me though, never tried it from him, LOL

hi all

i'm new to his and i readed that people feed shrimp, i have some frozen shrimp about 2in long, do i de-frost them? and how small would i need to cut them up to feed my silver aro which is about 8in long?

thanks

Defrost and cut into bite size which can fit into your aro's mouth.;)

I cut the prawn just big enough to cover a Hikari floating pellet...you can marinate in vitimins as well as plug them with a pellet.
Chop sticks are handy for feeding, or split a blunt bamboo skeewer and hold it with that...your Aro will prolly eat 3-4 mouthfulls 3-5 times a say...
They arn't pitbulls, they think they are, but you can train a pitbull to take food gently...
My aros eat with a vengance SNAP, Yank, thrash, gobble gobble, gone...LOL

defrosting is very important, coz feeding frozen stuff to your aro causes stomach and intestinal problems. just remember to feed with shells on, if possible. but dont feed the tail and head part of the shrimp (very important!). just the main meaty body, with shells on. you can cut it up to smaller segments for your juvenile silver

What's wrong with feeding the whole tail? I've been doing that for months and haven't noticed anything.

feed 2-4 times a day, just enough when you see a slight bulge on the tummy area. do not overfeed. the trick is to feed enough but still keeping them hungry enough when the next feeding time comes near. this ensures proper digestion and nutrition throughout the rapid growing months of the juvenile aro

Agreed...
.they will eat till they regurgitate, and that can't be good for Aros.
I ill give 3-5 pieces per feeding 4-5 times a day... 10 inch silver
I been trying beef heart this week also. slice absolutle lean part (all red) against the grain of partially frozen heart. using the size of Hikari floater pellets as a giude, tank water defrost in seconds. My Aro loves it takes it from my hand.

thanks for the replys everyone, still trying to get him to eat the shrimp

but the funny thing is that he really only likes to eat at night for some weird reason, daytime he just leaves the food there but when i feed at night he eats it straight away....anyone have a explanation for that?
