Feeding swimmers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FWIW, I feed my fry in a fairly lazy way: I drop in an Omega One Veggie Round (ingredients include kelp, spirulina, salmon, etc.) . . . the fry swarm over it, and when it's gone - - several hours later - - I just drop in another one

so far, so good . . . only problem is my female port cichlid also like the veggie rounds, so now I have to drop in two at a time . . .

What species and how many fry do you feed that way?

they are the product of a pairing between my male Carpintis and female white convict . . . I'd say there we a few hundred at first, and now there are probably about a hundred, but I've never actually counted . . . also, the Texas/Convict share the tank with a pair of port cichlids, and some loaches, and there has definitely been some predation

to be honest, part of why I'm being lax about feeding them is I don't really have any plans for them anyway . . . most of them will likely end up as feeders, though I may set aside a few just to see what results

I agree with you, but it would appear you missed my point, that I'm not "raising" them as anything, food or otherwise . . .

they are eating a high quality fish food, so in either case, I think I'm meeting any nutritional requirements . . .

ha ur saying you dont care enough to worry about the fry? but if you are gonna feed them to other fish you proly should gut load them for a while before you do feed them

you were right on the first part; don't particularly care . . . I'm mainly doing it out of curiosity

never said I was raising them as feeders, only that they might end up that way

the original question was about what is "necessary" to feed fry . . . I just pointed out my own way of doing it, and it had nothing to do with getting them ready to be fish food

take it for what it is . . . or don't . . .

o ha sorry i miss read it. i dont think theyre is a must, ive been feeding mine ground up flakes but they havent been growing all that fast

no worries . . . as an interesting side note, the fry are getting bolder, and they are now eating the brine shrimp that I use as a treat for the adults . . .

I'm not into breeding or anything, but I do find them interesting to watch :)
