Feeding the Common Pleco Veggies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will try to vary the diet a little, as long as he keeps up with his duties...

stick to a veggie based diet until gets bigger and older. there are still many things you could try

i feed my plecos lotsa cucumber, as much as they want, everyday, along with cichlid pellets (they live with my cichlids), frozen krill, etc.

mine get, depending on sp. bloodworms about twice a week. carnivorous/omnivorous catfish pellets (everyday) and a cucumber every week. sometimes i give them treats, recently started trying mango, and shelled peas, lettuce etc. just experimenting on top of regular diet

How are yours taking the mango???

Mine gets zuchini carrot or peas twice a week.Hes really good ay cleaning algae, tank is spotless,Ill put a decoration or rock from another tank in there once or twice a week and hell have it spotless in a matter of hours.and he cleans up the oscars table scraps
What kind of pleco do you have?

He's big. I would say 7-8"
You could start offering him some meat foods, but I would stick to primarily veggies and some fruits. Unless you want a huge carnivorous pleco! I had one, they are interesting, but not good for the overall effect of keeping a community tank!

I will only offer veggies, and he cleans up the cichlid gold, but not much. He's totally PETA.

well the gibby likes it and a couple of the others graze it as they do cucumber but none of them go mad for it. i'd imagine panaques do though
