Feeding time front 125 1/21/12

Ornatum is around 9in and Lyonsi is about 10.5in or so. I have 4 other smaller ornatums in other tanks. Trying to get a pair, but they are so rough on each other.
very nice healthy fish you have there. good luck trying to get a pair of ornatum. im convinced this species will not be spawned in an aquarium for some time. been in the US for like 5 years and no reported successful pairs.
I know fishman, but I can dream. I won't mention how much I've lost in the process, LOL! Besides the big male, I have 2 juvies and a small wild caught pair I got from Dan Ye. One day one turned on the other and I had to separate them, but I got lucky that time and nursing the loser back to health w/ some small Red Ceibals and Coryphanoides. I've had males flirt w/ female festae. I'm sure they would look cool and they are closely related but I'm not into crosses. I know a few others that are trying to get pairs of ornatum too. Pair 2s eggs hatched, half were fungused becase she laid real funny in angle of pot and male couldn't get at them all, but she's getting real aggressive now. I have my handsful w/ all the spawns and my schedule. Thanks for the props...

I always love a good looking Festae. Very nice! I hope you can get those Ornatum to breed. That would make for a very interesting thread.
How is your Ornatums temperment with his other tankmates.I have two that are around 4 and 5 inches in a community cichlid tank.Right now they are relatively peaceful other than some fighting with each other.They are also the smallest cichlids in the tank due to how slow they grow.
A little advice, IME they are extremely aggressive to each other. I have 5 now, 1 recovering from an attack from another. I've lost so many of these fish to themselves its crazy, but I love them and my big male is so pretty. I keep them all separated from each other. That big male festae in my Pair 2 Pics/Vids was my Big Ornatums ***** for so long, he looked nothing like he does now. He didn't really beat him up too bad but he did chase my festae and try and take his other female. One day I will have a PAIR, I hope Lol!

Believe me I know about their aggression towards each other
I got them from Rapps at a 1/2inch over a year ago and they have been anything but friends untill recently.In the last month or so the aggression level towards each other has really dropped off.They have even been hanging out a little.Best of luck with yours I would love to see someone breed them.
