If you feed your fish flakes, pellets etc. is it ok to feed them feeder fish like neon tetras etc every once in awhile? Or would it be better to keep feeder fish constantly around so he has a readily available supply?

I agree. If you've got your fish on flakes, pellets, or frozen just stick with it. Much less hassle with prepared foods than with live IMO.
I wasnt sure if feeding live feeders would provide extra/better nutrients...kind of like an upgrade if you have a reptile and go with mice to rats?
I agree. There is a wide range of commercial food and some are properly formulated to cater to the nutrition requirements of your fish. Stick to the commercial foods. Feeders always bring a wide risk of pathogen transmission which you obviously want to avoid.
I'de go frozen before i'de go live as a "treat" unless your willing to go threw the "joys" of breeding and raising your own so you can be as sure as possible (still not 100%) that the feeders are healthy and of good quality. ime buying "pet type fish" to use as feeders isn't any safer against disease ect. And if you wish to feed live, earthworms are alot safer then feeder fish, if you don't want to set-up your own feeder reproduction plant.
if you must feeders just to watch your fish hunt, then feed them some fry of something you might be breeding, but I wouldn't risk store bought feeders.
Once in awhile IMO would be fine. Their fish, their used to hunting so once in awhile would be fine. But only if you know that the feeders are healthy, and just a couple if not just 1 or 2.
