To all you Bichir owners out there, just a few questions:
1. What do you feed your Bichirs?
2. How many times per week/day do you feed it?

I think these questions are mentioned lots before but I got a Senegal Bichir a few days ago and I'm feeding it live fish and catfish pellets for now and I don't want to be a bad Bichir mommy :D

congrats on the new bichir. i would avoid feeding live feeder fish unless you know for sure they're not carrying any diseases that can transfer to your bichir. i feed my bichirs a wide variety of foods mostly ones with high protein or meaty foods like market shrimp, smelt, silver sides, earthworms, and pellets. if you have a juvie bichir, i would feed it maybe twice a day and skip a day every now and then. if it's a semi-adult to adult bichir, i would feed it less. maybe once a day and skipping a day or two every now and then also. try not to overfeed since senegals are pigs and would gorge themselves till they're about to burst. just feed enough so that your bichir would have a slight bulge on its tummy.

try superworms and small dried shrimp.

i remember when my albino took the lizard intended for my aro, it took him a few minutes to completely swallow it. after that it had a lizard like bulge in it's underside, like is300zx said, pigs hahaha :naughty:

i dont even "feed" my bichir. i throw food for everyone else, if he's hungry he'll go eat. watchin him prey on feeders is awesome
