Fees for using "The Marketplace"???

I'm a member on another fish forum where they just closed their buy n sell section because members are making too much profit selling stuff on there!!!! :eek:

The whole concept of being forced to "donate" or pay membership fees for a public forum disgusts me. if you dont "donate", you can only have a few pm's, limited attachments etc. and now, you cant buy/sell stuff.

Things like this make me glad to be a part of MFK!!!!! FORUMS SHOULD BE FREE!!!!! :headbang2

Dear xxxxxxx Members,

As you may have noticed the buy n sell has been temporarily disabled. No new posts/threads can currently be made. All old posts can be viewed.

The buy n sell will be disabled until a set of revised rules can be made. Why are revised rules needed? Originally the forum was created so members could trade "stuff" with each other. As the forum progressed some members started making a small amount of money off of their "stuff". These members were simply asked to become supporting members. Currently there are quite a few members making a fairly significant amount of money on the buy n sell. They are essentially utilizing it as a free storefront.

This becomes unfair for our sponsors who pay a good deal of money to advertise their brand and products. The current situation has gotten to the point that the moderators and I believe disabling the forum is the best option until a resolution is found.

Please bear with us during this time. If you have any question, comments, suggestions on ways to work through this please feel free to contact me.
If you are currently in the middle of a transaction, please continue it through private message with the other party.

I wouldn't like it either, but I can see their point.
 
i would leave that forum, and tell all of those members to join MFK!!!
 
yeah i can see where the mods are coming from, but i still dont like it either. i think it will deter a lot of members. if i have to pay to use a website, ill go look at some ________ :D not a fish forum :ROFL:

it just seems like prices/taxes for everything just keeps going up. and now you have to pay to use a forum? i dont think so. ill just be a lurker

What I hate more than paying for forums is people whine when having to pay for someone elses hard work. Takes lots of time, knowledge and money to startup, run and maintain a successful forum. Is it so bad for someone to want to supplement their income for all the hours of work and investment they put into their online community? Why should they settle for even having the server costs paid off by ads, when so many people are making so much money off of their work?

Seems more than fair to me. But most are unaware of how much time, knowledge and money it takes to run a forum. Forums are now essentially online businesses.

they recently started charging fees for certain areas ie jobs etc.

as for the op, they're just jealous!
