So our happy 'little' RTC, about 12", swallowed the suction cup from his Fluval 405. He's coughed up one piece of it (the small clippy thing), but the rubber suction cup is still in there somewhere. You can see it pushing out, from his tummy. :(

I had him out of the water, hoping to see it and remove it. But no go. It's way back in his inner cavity - can't go much further I guess. LFSs say he'll eventually cough it up. But other say to take him out again and "rub it" toward his mouth. Comments, advice? Don't want to lose him!

I don't own a RTC, but I have read about this type of thing from other RTC owners. The common advise is to way overfeed your catfish; it will make him throw up. Hopefully, when he does, he will give back the suction cup too.

Just be prepared to remove the regurgitated food asap when he does spew, and do a water change so his water doesn't foul from the mess.

Good luck. Let us know how it works out.

my rtc x tsn just did the same thing a few months back. don't sweat it. i did the same thing and freaked out but a lil while later i found the cup chillin on the bottom. so don't sweat it. it won't hurt em at all just let it do it's thing. gl

Love your Puffer - thanks for the replies guys ... I'll "chill" for a while. It was fun having him out to play ... he wasn't happy, but sorta cool to hold him! ;)

Hope the cloth was wet. Like they said if you can wait it out, but if it persists for a couple of months and it looks like it bothers him try the overfeeding. I've had one live with the intake filter end in his belly for over a month before he threw it up!

AW! he looks sooo cute in that first picture!! Thats one that you keep as a picture on your desk or wallet to show everyone or something! lol I love it. Did he "talk" at all when you took him out? mine does it when he comes up to eat

omg, last months , my RTC swallowed a pen's cover, i acidently drop it into my aquarium while i was feeding all my fishes, one of my rtc (he was less than 7'' tht time) was so stupid, i think he thought it was a food, and he ate it ( a stain/steel PARKER pen's cover which was about 5cm, i temporary place it at the top of my aquarium whn i found it on floor)....
i was so shock to see this scene... dunno wat to do... but to wait...... and wait....
wait bout 30 minutes, he still react like nothing.....and im so damn numb, cant do anythng... and finally, i made my decison -----> leave him alone, hoping the best for him....

Thks God, i found the pen's cover at the bottom of the aquarium 2 days after ths incident. And, this RTC is still ok and he is even more active now....

Anyway, GL to u , bro. hope to hear good new frm u soon.

look, he is still fine :)
Realy hope the same on yr cat too. :)

my pacu ate the suction cup and it passed all the way to anus and it stuck there...half out and half in.... finally had to take him out and remove it ever so gently and then he healed up perfectly... i hope your guy is as lucky.. he is awesome.

You pacu was lucky. If that had stuck anywhere inside it would have been the end of him!

That is why I'm not too happy with the "wait and see" method. Once an object passes the stomach, there is only one option left.
