It's a 1.5 hp Hayward swimming pool pump. It is a low head/high flow pump. Since it is a closed system, it is equivalent to returning the water at the same height that it was drawn from (in other words, zero head). The pump will operate at its maximum flow rate and will only have to overcome the resistance in the plumbing and the filter.
 
Yeah, I ran that one by Rob when we were at your place. I murdered the joke, but here I at least have the edit button.
 
The Hayward pump is rated at 5,820 GPH. The Marlin High Rate Sand Filter is 8,460 GPH.
With the water being turend over at around 5820 GPH,that is good on a huge amount of water. You don't need to turn it over like the small tanks at 1 or 2 times GPH. Also,I'm using pea gravel.

I was contemplating that type of filter (closed loop bead filter) on a 360g
What are your thoughts?
 
I read a scientific study that they did on beads,sand and flow rates. The bottom line was they were all about the same. They said basically, it came down to cost. It was a way to try to get the money out of our pockets ! I used pea gravel for the 15 years or so,on my 1,500 gallon tank and I never,ever had any problem with water quality. If you want to spend all that money on balls,beads,or floating beads,using a blower go ahead.
It's going to cost just 22.00 for the pea gravel. 7cb ft. of gravel
