I had mine in a 125G tank... cost $80, Filstar XP 3 or 4 was like $200... Hundreds (if not a couple grand) as gone to plants, rocks, gravel and food.

I know they are commons, but they grew from an inch to 8 or 9" in 7-8 months.

its just a simple tank really. i have no decor except for some bricks that i use to hold the titanium heater and the pond filter down. they also prevent him from getting at them and biting them. i use just an infreared bulb for lighting. when he was little i used a uv flourescent light but i think as they get older and bigger they move to deeper darker water where they probably dont get much uv in the wild. for the first yr i offered a basking spot but it was never used so i got rid of it. no even commans bask that much. usually on the females in the spring to warm there bodies up for breeding. i do see them occassionly sitting in shallows with there shells just below the water. is this basking or is this just using the warmer water to warm up!??! so anyways, here is one pic iof the tank. the white rim on the insides is silicone (dont ask my why i didnt use clear, lol ) i the tank was so big that i couldnt make the corner going down the stairs to the basement so i had to trim off the top foot or so. man i was mad. all those cords are the heater, pond filter, and i have a small eheim in there for water movement as well. it came with a drain, but i added the hose like knob on the end to make it easier to use. i think it was just a plug that they had in it. eventually i would like to make it look nicer with some kind of home made top with some flourescents. maybe add an under water shelf then that he can hide under away from the lights. would like to maybe get a different type of filter system too. like those fx5s that i see. because i had to cut the top off of the tank i only have it half full. 150-200 gallons of water.

I wouldn't do a tank, I believe they will get too heavy for glass full grown.
