I wouldn't do a tank, I believe they will get too heavy for glass full grown.
well a gallon of water weighs 8 lbs....the mass of a gallon of turtle should be the same. hes not made of led. ive had to help my roommate bust out pieces of glass from his tank. and i am comfident i could park a car in a 150 gallon and it would hold. if it would fit..

Dude 400 gallons is not enough for him to be full grown but would hold him for many years to come. These things get huge. I don't think you could even get a stock tank big enough for a full grown one to be comfortable.

lets say he gets a full 2 foot long shell tip to shell tip...why does he need alot of room? 400 gallons is enough room for me to live in... he doesnt swim... he just chills...

sounds like you are being diffucult just to be so.

You dont live in 400 G, you may sleep in an area that large, but you drive miles to the store and to work.

the idea is to make these animals feel like they choose their enclosure. Although that is pretty much impossible since snappers move upstream slowly through out their entire life.

You dont want them sitting in the same spot for 50 years do you? Mine where quite active. though slow. they moved about the tank digging up stuff and chasing fish. They seemed to wrestle with each other from time to time. There is a lot that goes into keeping animals psycologically happy.

LMAO I will definantly buy a 400 gallon and keep you in it...

:screwy:

Maybe you will eat the raw chicken necks I throw in aswell.

A 400 gallon tank is going to cost a fortune plus it will be very heavy. Either build a pond or buy a farm stock tank for your gator snapper.

Ok well if that's the case, you should build an enclosure. Check out some of the D-I-Y threads in the fish section. They show you how to build large custom display tanks.

I would think a cheaper alternative to an acrylic tank (which is gonna get scratched the sh it out of by its claws) would be plywood with a glass front. That way you have less expenses and it still looks good in your house entrance.
