Female Aggression in Africans

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have an assortment of female peacocks in my main tank and they fight all day long non-stop. they even chase some of my males too! for a while i was starting to think they were sub-dominant males with little coloring however each of them has had a mouthful of eggs at one point or another so i know for sure they are female. so yes, females can be every bit as aggressive as males, especially with other femaies. they form their own dominance hierarchy just like males. about the only thing i haven't seen the females do is the shimmy shimmy shake males do when they are courting.

I have a female dragonblood. She fights the males and takes over the courting. Then when its her turn to spawn she lets the eggs go with male and then thrashes him when he releases. I dont get it! She is the Kqueen of the tank!

Its just the one female. She is one of the reddest females I have seen of that type. I wish she would hold. I would love some fry from her.

They have their own ranking.

This is my observation as well. My C. afra Lupingu and C. sp. "Lion" Lion's Cove females definitely have a pecking order that then abide by or some girl is gonna get her bell rung.

Also, some females are just plain a**holes and can push around other fish in the tank just because they can. I've got two females like that as well...
