The plan is to empty the tank completely, lol. I need to move the tank so that will be a good time to remove all the sand.

I haven't decided about barebottom, Ray. I'm actually considering tiling the bottom though.

No, I'm thinking it would be easier to keep the crap in the water column. Gravel presnets too many nooks and crannies for the crap to get trapped in.

The other thing I'm considering is a uniform bottom that would be conducive to good photography. Bare bottom tanks are a nightmare for me when shooting photos of spawning and fry. If I was shooting in the midwater level, the bottom would not be an issue.
