Had this female for a year she is only 7 inches now, hoping she would be a foot by year 2 but not looking like it. She lays eggs about every 3 to 4 weeks and doesn’t eat much when there is eggs or the week after. Normal size female or slow growing? Still by herself in a 75 gallon. Very nice looking lil lady ya got there. I would say she's growing normally but this would only be coming from my experience with the Jaguar cichlid not the wolf. It took me a lil over 2 years to get my ex-roommates female jag upto 9 inches in an 80. Hopefully someone with a bit more experience in dovi will chime in with their own 2 cents.

She is not as aggressive of an eater as my male. I guess from where she started from she has grown about 1/2 inch a month. She is still a little shy compared to my male. I just figured she would have grown faster. She on cichlid bio gold, hikari carnivore, jumbo krill.

Sounds like a good health mix. The jag I used to take care of was pretty shy too, she wanted to pair with the male jack Dempsey I used to have but he wanted to pair with the female JD and the female JD didn't want to pair with anyone and hated the female jag lol the only fish she would fight with was my male convict that I can't even give away. But she ate mostly shrimp pellets, hikari gold large floating pellets, and the occasional guppies I would cull from my line breeding project. She loved the guppies the most but couldn't feed her those too often, she would starve herself for a week afterwards looking for more before going back to artificial.

I was thinking that mine was growing slow also, but it sounds like the same growth rate as yours. Also about 7 inches, around 1.5 years old plus. Her growth definitely slowed when she started producing and raising fry, even though she still has a very good appetite at any other time.

Do you have any pictures of your female Rass?
