It's still too small to tell for sure. Males at that age can have black on their dorsal. On this one, it's not even solid black, just a couple of blotches. It also has some spangling throughout it's dorsal fin which females don't usually have. But it's overall body shape and rounded fins look female. Hard to say at this point.

I keep coming back to this thread...I still can't tell for sure but leaning towards female.

Actually Its dorsal fin is rounded but its anal fin is very pointed im still debating its sex.... im leaning towards female but I cant get over the fact it was the dominant fish out of the group... it was the fastest growing and the most colroful...guess I will have to wait and see... I cant vent because I cant clearly see the vent yet and i dont have a magnifying glass lol.... its finally starting to have a growth spurt and showing signs of aggression.... I dont mind its sex im just desperate to know.... Also i forgot to mention the black isnt visible all time it fades away but will come back...

Did you ever see my male when he was about 5-6"? This is the fish in my avatar.

Your Festae's dorsal is more rounded than this one's but it's younger too.

I can see.. very intersesting.... this festae is barely 4" mayby a tad smaller... at what size did yours lose the black? at what size do you think I can get a 100% positive id?

100% female black dorsal fin is a tell tell sign. i have a male

sorry, black dorsal, at this size especially, is almost irrelevant.

Look at this male and baltons above

It's about 4" now? In the coming months it should start to shape up a lot more.

he/she has not really grown much but definitely has changed... it beat the crap out of a 5.5" gt and attacks all tankmates its really funny because it charges at the larger fish then retreats... It has really developed a lot of agressiona and is starting to get green ariound the face not sure if you can see it in the pics... also he/she still has black on its dorsal...
So do you guys still vote female?
Also forgot to add i think its tube is slightly showing and it looks male its really thin and pointed backwards.... its really hard to see though..
