AHi - am female altho Matthecat doesn't sound like it- that's named after my elder cat who died 5 years ago and is still loved and missed. I'm also probably the oldest one too!

Agreed! I am a dude, but my roommates are chicks and they just dont understand why I do what I do and how much I do with my tanks each week. They do admit that they love looking at the tanks though and one even wanted to put a small tank in her room, until I told her what she would have to do each week.

Off topic but still dealing with pets and females, have you ever noticed that the majority of jackass dogs are owned by females?

i love my tanks and i love getting in there to sort out the fish and decor and yes believe it or not dont mind cleaning filters.
i love the fact they r all alive coz of me and happy and healthy.
my mates constantly take the P out of me coz il say sorry cant do this tonight, im doing the fish, or going to a fish meeting (last night i was sposed to b going to the gym as usual with the girls but backed out to see a fish room) and i go on about fish because apart from my lil girl thats kinda all i got. so i natter alot about them but they r my hobby and i enjoy learning aboiut them and teaching my friends.
i have a friend thats just got 2 fish tanks coz of me and another that is looking in to getting one. both female!

im 24 and im a lady.... i keep and maintane 439G myself and keep stingrays,severums,plecos,frontosa etc etc etc and enjoy everything from the tank setup to filter cleaning and cutting up worms in the morning...

I've had two girlfreinds in the past that were into fish. One had more tanks than me, but she only had a 55 set up. It is amazing how many women just don't have a hobby. My current GF just fishes some. Other than that, it's TV time. I play with the fish, she watches opra. I do wish more women were in the hobby though, just to balance the testosterone level a little. Put a little yang in out ying.

It gets annoying when I go into a fish store with my hubby and the employee talks to him about the fish. Hubby doesn't care, hubby doesn't know anything about fish, I'm the one with the ten tanks, but this fact goes over a lot of people's heads!

Or, when I walk in with my two kids, I can see it on the employee's faces: "Oh boy, here comes another dumb mom looking for a goldfish for "junior's" ten gallon."

couldnt agree more. my lfs knows me pretty well and gives sweet to my lil one and look after her while i have a look lol but the amount of male customers that look at me when im wondering will that id shark fit in my tank till i get an indoor pond or 8x3x3, is rediculous. iv had a few comments in the past saying 'u dont want to be looking at that ugly thing, those r the ones u want' etc and point to minnows and tetras.
tbh i dont know anything about fish that dont grow over a foot lol so they usually get some pathetic answer....'they would get eaten before they even touched the water in my tank' or 'but i dont know how to look after fish'
