female, i think Vieja synspila, bloat, fat, carrying?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well, if it's not bloat she's probably good for a day or so on the food. I generally skip a day or so each week for all my fish other than mbuna. She could have just overeaten, but you should rule out everything else first. My freddy will eat everything offered with no control whatsoever, always at the front of the line for food. She will get quite fat if I let her......

do you have any plecos in the tank? My midas and freddy will eat all the algae wafers if I drop them in front of them, even at night

I do have plecos and put in a few wafers at night although i think i will not feed then for a while prob 3 or 4 days as i have a bit of an algea proplem.

Hopfully it is just the fact that she is a pig!

I have kept cichlids for a long time and none have ever got this fat (i hope Thats it)..... She may just be trying to grow up too fast so she can breed with my big male stud! Lol

The first pic looks as though the fish is pooping normal. If its eating then theres no bloat. Synspilums usually get that plump when they feed. When the poop becomes white and stringy and refuses to eat, then its got bloat. I cant remember any Synspilum comming down with bloat. They normally dont get this. Be sure to feed it and most any Central Amer. Cichlid plenty of veggies and little protein. Belive me theyre gonna grow without it. Good luck monsta.

a little update, she has slimmed down a bit after not feeding for 24 hours, i will not feed for about another 8 hours, but she seems really stressed breathing fast and she has gone dark, there are plenty of hiding spots and none of the other fish are showing these signs, i have some API stress coat should i add some to help her out?

She may need a hospital tank so you can treat her properly..other wise treating the entire tank is expense for nothing .. good luck with her..
