Great pics and video. did her pearling fade in her face? im assuming the males old the spangling.

cich wit it- i am in the same boat. i cant tell the difference yet. my 4 are 2-3" now. last nite my largest one completely striped up and looked like a male festae from a distance.

With the large male that I had...the difference I could tell visually was he had heavy spangles in the face where as the female didnt...not so sure on the smaller female becasue she is always behind something and the tank right now isnt in the best spot to watch her. Also the male has richer red in the tail and stuff. BUT I didnt have the male all that long...and this female has added a fair about of color since I first got her. See this thread where I had some pics of male and female side by side. Also I think only the female bars up like a male festae...but when there younger maybe they all can bar up? I have 2 that are about 2" and one seems to have no bars and heavy spots in the face while the other seems to have slight bars and less spots. But the bared one is the less dom one too so I dont know if thats the reason.

Here is a side by side of the male from that thread I posted with the over head flash like the female that I just took today. I think the only way is going to be to vent them...or if females only bar up...but then again I dont know what size that may apply to if it does at all.

Ha HA.. i was just checking that thread out before you replied:) im not sure on the bars either, i thought that was a female trait. the one that did bar up is the larger of the 4 and has a good amount of spangling on its face. it only barred up for a moment when the syns or festae came over to its territory. then the bars went away. it reminded me of a male festae in breeding stripes but at 3";) Its definetly gonna be fun growing them out and learning about a new fish for me.

Interesting about the face spangling. Thanx. I gotta run to my tanks now. lol. Any spangling in the females dorsal fin? I see the male you have has large green carpintis like spangling in the dorsal fin and also the other fins at that.

Been waiting to see some nice mature pics of these guys, besides rapps site.. Great pics, video and fish. Thanks for sharing.
