Just go 40 breeder with some dithers, you will get much better behaviors and color out of the salvini that way.

20long would be a good grow out for a salvini, I would not recommend dithers. 40g breeder is the right tank long term. I have had a few, and think they are the ****, but can be a little nasty.

I'd say 40 too, but at that point you might as well grab a 55 in case you decide on adding a second fish.

Yes 40 breeder would be great. Choose your dithers wisely. My salvinis have killed many of my dithers. Silver dollars are the only ones that have been tough enough to live with them in my experience, plus can be housed in a 40 breeder.

I've only ever kept silver dollars in a 55 and I felt it was too small for them. And they weren't even adults yet. I had them 6-8 months. All they did was bang into everything in the tank and more times than not they'd try to get through the glass.
So I'd say a standard 55 isn't enough room based on my experience.
