Female xilo and sagittae Q

I haven't thought of the other species because I'm really partial to the white/orange/red coloration rather than barred.

lol its not mine so i couldnt tell you...

nope....it's mine. :D lol I honestly don't remember when it turned white....I got 4 together in Feb of '09 and they all looked the same...pale peachy/yellow color. 3 of them gradually gained more orange but this one pretty quickly turned white.

Hi there.....I have both at the moment and they are very different fish..IMO
the Sag's are very aggresive and are growing rapidly...kind of like a Midas
on steroides....they are a contender to other heavy weight cichlids...
the xilo's seem a little more fancy and the snouts on the two species are def. defferent...Xil'o more long and thin & Sag's more larger and not as long...
I like them both but I would say Sag's are more heavy weights than Xil'os and might grow a bit larger.....but the answer to your question is; they should both grow to about 10 to 12 inches for females.....and Sag's would
be bigger than xil's.....Heavy weight tank....go with Sag's....middle weight
tank...go with xilo's....
just my 2 cents......cheers

Are you sure you don't have them backwards? Back in '09 before I ordered the xilo's I asked Jeff Rapps about them. He told me that xilo's were basically like midas in that they would grow taller bodied and much bulkier whereas the sagittae were closer to labiatus in that they are more streamlined and not as bulky. This has been my experience with them. I've had the male xilo in my avatar since Feb '09 and I ordered a male sagittae and 2 female xilo's last summer. I have several threads with pics of all of them for comparison.

To answer the OP's original question, unfortunately I don't think anyone truly knows the maximum adult size of these fish because they haven't really been around long enough to find out. The male in my avatar is probably 11.5" TL.
