Hi; my turtle is an escape artist and he does pull-ups to actually climb out of the tank! He uses his turtle dock which is right next to the wall and then he grabs the tank top and just pulls himself out..

problem is, I am going to build a tank stand which is going to be around 2' or so, but a fall onto a marble flooring is not gonna be good..

At first I thought of getting a normal aquarium top but then, I thought he would probably be able to knock it off. PLUS I don't think he won't be able to extend his neck out while basking.

So I decided something like a fence around the back of the tank will be good.
I am thinking of maybe a metal mesh or something, but how should I get it onto the side of the tank?
I mean I can't drill anything(i don't think so) and tape is not gonna work..

I wanted something like this..

The fence is going to have to be mostly vertical pieces so he can't climb it, like a child proof pool fence.

Actually you could do it with a piece of acrylic (or glass), if the tank has a decent lip above the top braces you could glue strips of acrylic to the bottom of the larger piece to form a U that would sit over the top edge of the tank, see pic (if you use glass use silicon and glass strips)

thanks for the tip.
yeah that sounds cool!

so the black part is the tank sideways and the blue thing is a piece of acrylic..am i correct?
what kind of glue should I use?

one problem..my tank is the "all glass aquariums" and it has a plastic thing around the top of the entire tank and also has a "bumpy" thing inside..will I still be able to do this?

just cut a piece of egg crate to fit the top of the tank....then get 4 adhesive hooks from the home improvement center. Attach the 4 hooks on the sides of the tank then after setting the eggcrate in place streach a large rubber band between the hooks and your good to go...

If you lean them in, like they do with the barbed wire on prison fences, he won't be able to climb it.

yeah you made that real easy to understand(in my point of view)lol
we have those around the private lake.
So I just want to set the acrylic in an angle in-wards?
how much does a 20" piece cost on average?(who carrys them?)

danz; i'm not good at picturing in my head..any pics/drawings?

wolf; eggcrates..the plastic ones right?
i think i'll be able to picture what you're talking about once I get all the stuff...
if not can you draw me something?

wait so the plastic hooks right? so how should I spread out the hooks?
and how do I get the eggcrate in place? also what about this rubberband?
sorry i'm a trip..

One picture of the eggcrate ($10.00 a sheet) cut to fit one of my tanks...

One picture of adhesive stick on hooks on my fish supply cabnit holding nets...(OK the picture didn't turn out use your imagination)

The hooks go on the outside of the plastic rim on the sides of the tank. streach a rubber band from one side to the other between each pair of hooks so the turtle can't lift the eggcrate but you can whenever you want to.

Oh i didn't realize that it said to "fit the top of the tank"

i wanted to let the top part exposed(for basking purposes)..so that's why i wanted to make a "fence" around it.. is it possible?

but this cover isn't a bad idea..i get it now.(after repeating the sentence like 10times..)
so get a fairly large rubberband and hook it on one side, stretch it across the tank, and hook it on the other side!
is the rubberband strong enough though? I'm guessing my turtle is really strong because he can do pull-ups(he's heavy too)

if i do this, i'll probably go with something more durable..maybe a string? or 25lbs test line?lol

you can even use a bungee cord if you like. and the light can still get through for basking.
