I think it all depends on what your breeding and what you bring back to the line. Say someone is starting a rt project with a rd/tex... If they keep using a rd or tex for f1, f2, and so on, they would most likely have more fertile fry more often then when using a bp within the mix. Just my thoughts... Sorry I don't have a link.

Fertility depends on how much of what parent species is in the mix for example a rainbow king is a mix between a parrot(red devil cross synspilum ) and a synspilum another example a devil parrot a mix between a parrot and a devil and heres another a fortune fish which is a mix between a unfaded red texas(texas cross parrot/rose queen) and a synspilum a good rule to follow is to make offspring with over 65% of the hybrid's genes from one species on the other hand there are a few exceptions like convicts tend to throw fertile male f1 hybrid offspring

In my opinion 62.5% seems to be the magic number.
Amphilophus are sort of special, they're mostly inter-fertile, so in this instance you can count them all as one species. For example, if your hybrid is 25% trimac, 25% midas, 12.5% red isleta, and the rest is texas/synspila etc, you can still figure that as 62.5% purity.
Some people have tried to lead me to believe that somehow synspila are different, citing lack of kamfa fertility, but then I see threads on other forums about crossing a syn to an unfaded RT, and getting fertile male fry. The only way that's even possible is that unfaded RT had to have some small percentage of syn blood. Perhaps it's mother or grandmother was bp, kkp, skkp, or mammon etc. I can't wait to test the fertility of my syn X parrot males...at (roughly) 75% purity, I have a hard time believing they won't be fertile.
Just like the lies that were spread about the creation of bp (severum X midas? Yah right!), I think there are a great many falsehoods being deliberately spread about other hybrids. After all the hybrid breeding game is built on the concept of trade secrets. No one wants to reveal how they created a specific breed, because they want you to think you could never recreate it on your own, that if you want that breed you must buy it from them.

Yep Mr. Chen aka rare fish father of the blue diamond aka thai silk and the rainbow king and many other breeds the man is a flowerhorn genus im glad you use breed for a fish cause many people dog the term is used for flowerhorn when in when flowerhorn follow the evolution of many other pets closely just centuries behind dogs cats koi and bettas

Oh yes I know of Mr. Chen, his site was what got me thinking about making hybrids. A true master of creating new breeds.
Totally agree on the term "breed" in reference to the different strains, to me it is exactly the same thing as dogs, cats, koi, bettas, horses, cows, chickens, we use "breed" or "breeds" when talking about those animals, why not these lovely new strains of ornamental aquarium fish? Besides, what else could you call them? I wouldn't call them a species...

For sure this is a little off topic but I just thought of something that would make millions and thats to make a completely leusistic flower not a thai silk but a flowerhorn that is solid white with normal eyes it would probably be a white midas cross ive never seen one so I bet they dont exist seen faders but nothing close to a leuci the have them in oscars convicts jaguars jacks and midas sure it can be done know that four of the five are central american could be done a solid white flowerhorn with red eyes

I've seen some extremely high white creamsicle midas, from what I understand of the gene the more you pair it up the more white on the fish. My brother has a pair with only a small dash of orange on their anal & dorsal fin. Darn close to pure white, I'd say 90%-95% white. A true leucistic might not have red eyes, perhaps grey or blue. Your best bet for what you're talking about is high white midas, even then some don't have red eyes, my brothers midas have yellowish eyes. If you do it take pics and post a thread, lol! It sounds like a very amazing fish.

Perhaps if you could get a blue silk to fade? I can even imagine how to go about such an ambitious project, breeding a true blue silk that also fades? Holy crap.

Reason I ask bc im breeding a vieja syn to a kml and I new the f1 males wasnt going to b fertile due to the cross I just eanted 2 no more in depth. ...
