Festae males do get 16" but takes several years. Female Festae get upto 12"... And not saying it is t true, but I've never seen an Oscar over 12".. You could get away with a 75 for an Oscar but more space is always recommended. I've bred and raised a few Festae over the years and I say it is much better to keep Festae pairs in a 125 minimum.. And no, you can't find hiding spots for just the female as they are already close in size and can both easily fit in same spots...

I agree with Freshwaterpredators, a 75 is a puddle, and festae get way too large to be sentenced to life in a puddle. To me, a 6ft tank, is minimum.

My Alpha Males ( couple different tanks) hit the 8 inch mark in less than a Year and now at almost 2 years old they are at least 12 inches and super bulky.I know everyone says they are slow growers but mine got there quicker than I expected...Not tryin to preach to Ya just be ready and start lookin for a 125+ A.S.A.P. - Good lookin pair.

I would imagine after being kept in the constantly switching, and thus probably unhealthy, environments they wouldve stayed in to get to the different owners and the LFS and to me... Might be a bit stunted, which might slow down the growth a bit.

For me i usually will only keep fish if i click with them. My Texas male, for example. He eats out of my hand sometimes and glassbangs in front of my face.

So the whole issue will only be an issue if i either really like them or they breed...

I bought 10 babies 2 Years ago and ended up w/ 2 proven breeding pairs and 1 pair looks promising AND I have a large male that eats from My hand..I have kept most common cichlids over the last 25+ years and Festae are My favorite ever .... I have two batches of fry born this week in different tanks! there is always somethin goin on and their breeding colors and rituals are just the greatest to Me. Be patient they are amazing. That's just My two cents.Good luck..
