Festae; biggest wusses ever?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think alot of it has to do with tank size. i have a female around 9-10 inches and when in the 75 gallon acts shy toward me but when in the 180 gallon approaches me when i come to the tank because she knows its feeding time. same with the argentae smaller tank and timid. larger tank meets me front glass

That wasnt the case with me. I had them alone in a 265 and it was actually worse than in the 125 because they had way more hiding spots.

Also, Ive had about 12 different ones in a 75, 125 & 265 from 1 inch to 10 inches and they were all the same once they got over 3 or so inches...skittish. Under 3 or so and they were fine.

I agree with this. and i also believe it works the same way with similair behavoir in other fish too. Larger tanks always works for the shy'r fish ive owned. another thing that has work was adding competition for feeding like various dithers, and i see you have clowns but might try SD's or something else. and possibly re-arrange your tank so they have to re-establish territory. But festae do have a tendacy to try patients, but the patients is what makes them worth it;)

mine are skittish...wild caught...and I have had them for over a year...male is pushing 12-13" I guess female is probably 10-11. If I rush up on the tank they go crazy. If they see me with there food they are a little more aggressive but this took a long time to get them that way. Even with fry.

They're currently in a 210g tank with 16 clowns (soon to be sold) and 9 spotted metynnis. When I pull the tank to bits to move the clowns on I'll do a bit of a rearrange to give them a bit more cover. I have kept 8 of my favourite clowns (all about 4-7") to keep with them, but not sure how it will work out long-term with their aggression.

Clown loaches are faster and they cant catch them right?

I only had a female. The most nervous and afraid cichlid I have ever come across.

Took the fun out of keeping it.

Ive always taken the shyness and reaction to changes as a sign of intelligence for example I dont think ccharicins even notice if theyre put into a new tank
